Data breaches are nothing new. In recent years data breaches have been in the new more and more. As more and more of our life gets transacted online there is more and more data to steal and the value of that data is more and more valuable.
What can you do to protect yourself?
There is no magic solution. You cannot trust that companies and organizations will be able to protect your data absolutely. Companies and organizations are made up of human beings and human beings are falible, even the most responsible can, do and will get breached.
Additionally, your data is sold and trade all the time. For every organization you know holds your data there are a dozen more you do not know about.
So, what can you do?
Firefox Monitor is a relatively new service that will monitor your email addresses and alert you when a new data breach is reported, inform you if one of your email addresses is found to be part of a data breach and advise you on actions you can take to protect your online privacy.
